Ingredients

  • 1.25 lbs 97% Lean Ground Turkey

  • 0.5 oz Clamshell Fresh Basil, Roughly Chopped

  • 1/2 Cup Red Onion, Diced

  • 1 Egg

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

  • 1 tsp Crushed Red Pepper

  • 4 Dave’s Killer Buns

  • 1/4 Cup Barilla Rustic Pesto

  • 8 oz Fresh Mozzarella Cheese

  • 2 Roma Tomatoes

  • 1 Cup Spinach

  • 2 TBS Balsamic Glaze

Instructions

  1. Start by prepping your fresh basil. Rinse, pat dry, and roughly chop the whole 0.5 oz clamshell. Set aside.

  2. Finely dice 1/2 cup of red onion.

  3. In a medium sized bowl, add 1.25 pounds 97% lean ground turkey, chopped basil, 1/2 cup finely diced onion, 1 egg, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp crushed red pepper.

  4. Mix well and divide into 4 equal portions.

**I used my food scale to measure the total amount of ingredients in grams and then divided it by 4!**

  5. Preheat a large skillet to medium high heat.

  6. Once the skillet is preheated, spritz lightly with olive oil spray and place your burger patties.

**The mixture is going to be very sticky. I placed my unformed patty directly into the pan and then carefully used my fingers to get it slightly flattened out.**

  7. Place a lid on the skillet and let the patties cook for 1-2 minutes.

  8. Flip the patties and use your spatula to flatten them out. They should have a pretty good golden color on them!

  9. Cover with the lid and repeat until the internal temperature reads 160°.

**These actually cook pretty fast! Make sure you keep an eye on the temp! If you end up accidentally overcooking them like I did, don’t worry, they will still be perfect!**

  10. Set your oven to broil.

  11. On a baking sheet, place however many buns you need for the evening and add 1 TBS of pesto to the bottom of each bun. Then add 2 ounces of fresh mozzarella cheese to the top of each bun.

  12. Broil until the cheese starts to get melty. Keep an eye on the bottom bun - don’t burn it waiting for the cheese to melt!

  13. While your buns toast, quickly slice up some tomato.

  14. Assemble your burgers - place 1/4 cup spinach, 1 turkey patty, some sliced tomato, and 1/2 TBS of balsamic glaze on the bottom bun.

  15. Close up the burger and enjoy!

Don't forget to say grace! ✨

Pro Tips

  1. You can use ground chicken for this recipe as well, but it will change the nutrition facts slightly.

  2. If you are looking to save calories, try a Keto bun instead of the Dave’s Killer bun!

  3. These patties are GREAT leftover! Pop them in the microwave and freshly prep the rest of the burger elements (the bun, pesto, & cheese in the oven) and voila! 2 days of amazing dinner!
